Amendments to the law “On Maternity and Sickness Insurance” regulate the procedure for paying paternity allowance, as well as aid to solve the issues related to the allowance in situations where the child’s paternity is not established. Amendments also affect paternity leave.
Amendments to the law “On Maternity and Sickness Insurance” – applicable from 1 January 2023
- Paternity allowance will be granted and paid of for 10 working days
- Paternity allowance will also be granted to a person designated by the child’s mother if the child’s paternity has not been established or determined
- Extension on the period of use of paternity leave – six months
- Each of the child’s parents, until the day the child reaches the age of eight, will have the right to a parental allowance period of at least two calendar months, which cannot be used by the other parent (non-transferable part)
- Working recipients of parental allowance (persons who are employed and not on parental leave or earn income as self-employed) will have the right to receive a parental allowance in the amount of 50%
